Tornado La Plata

A tornado of the strongest measurable magnitude violently assaulted the town of La Plata in southern Maryland on a Sunday, April 29, 2002. The wide wake of the monstrous twister left the upheaval and destruction of 100 homes and 80 businesses. Numerous residents of La Plata suffered injuries, some serious. Three people lost their lives

Acts of God Disaster Relief sent two teams from Orange County, California to La Plata, Maryland to help. Team members Helen Bachman, Ken Koseki, Robin March, Jim Brewington, Donna Reeve, and Nelson Brewington were on the site and on the job for three days lifting, moving, and stacking furniture, clothing, and other personal possessions for the victims. Water heaters were salvaged, severed tree limbs were removed, and keepsakes were wrapped and protected. Conversations of encouragement were offered and hugs of care were exchanged with the resilient, irrepressible people of La Plata.

Here are some photographs of the Acts of God on-site workers, the victims, and the devastation. May the residents of La Plata be quickly restored through God's love.
